I have written a letter to the Minister regarding the licensing of inspectors; as we have all heard that CAPHI members are informing the public that they will be the only ones licensed to perform home inspections. The letter as written to the minister is attached.

Re: Home Inspections Industry
I have on several occasions heard from realtors and most recently from my daughter that home inspectors must belong to The Canadian Association of Property Home Inspectors (CAPHI) to be licensed to operate in the near future. These statements have been issued by this association and its members. I am certified by The International Association of Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) and have extensive inspections experience. These statements have cost me loss of work.
Could you please enlighten me concerning this issue?
I myself do not think that it is fair if only one particular association will have the monopoly for certifying qualified home inspectors.
Thanking you in advance
Sincerely
Steve C. Horvath CET CMI
The minister's response was
"A home inspections business regulatory committe has been established to identify options for regulating the home inspectors operating in Alberta
Both major associations representing home inspectors in Alberta are participating in this committe"
